A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
August 15, 2019
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope that your family is having a wonderful summer, and you are as excited as we are for the start of a new school year. We would like to welcome all of our new families to the Elton Gregory community and look forward to building a strong partnership that we all know is essential for middle school student success. If you are a returning family, welcome back, we are looking forward to another great year!
At EGMS we focus on all aspects of your child’s growth, which means we work to develop and support the academic, social, and emotional health of our school community. This starts with our collective vision:
“We believe in creating genuine relationships to inspire growth and achievement. We provide meaningful learning opportunities for all students. Students thrive emotionally, socially, and intellectually in a culture of acceptance, kindness, and perseverance.”
This year our goal is to “be the change we want in the world”. It must start local and it must start with us. As a school community we have the ability to create a positive and supportive climate in which we live. As an administrative team we continue to look for ways to increase student and community voice in our decisions. Our inservice week will be focusing on putting action to our vision. Once again, “Kindness” is the word of the year for EGMS! Kindness will be a central element in all interactions at EGMS, and we will continue our kindness based reward system. We would love to have similar “kindness” discussions happening at home.
Regular and on time daily attendance is very important. Irregular attendance and tardiness are often primary factors associated with student academic failure and eventual inability to graduate from high school. Evidence shows that students who miss an average of 10 days within a year fall behind and are unlikely to catch up. We want to partner with you to make sure your child is at school every day! This year we have worked with Trinity Bikes and Redmond Snow and Skate to increasing our attendance incentive program. Each trimester we will be giving away a skateboard (helmet included) and scooter (helmet included) as attendance incentives.
We are pleased to welcome new EGMS teachers, educational assistants and returning teachers who have changed their role as well as an additional school counselor:
