A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! We are so excited to; once again have our building filled with the bustling energy of middle school students, and look forward to working as a team to support your child. This year, our enrollment has increased to 650 students, which has led to the re-opening of the Metolius Wing. During our In-service week the EGMS team came together to develop our collective identity. Our team is proud of the work we did, and we are happy to share that identity with you.
“We believe in creating genuine relationships to inspire growth and achievement. We provide meaningful learning opportunities for all students. Students thrive emotionally, socially, and intellectually in a culture of acceptance, kindness, and perseverance.”
AVID: This is our third year as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school, we pride ourselves on creating a culture that promotes goal setting, self-directedness, and career exploration. Your child will experience the benefits of AVID strategies throughout the year in all of their classes. This year we are implementing a school wide binder organization process. Please take a few minutes to have your child explain the system to you.
TECH: Students will continue to have access to technology that supports learning. This year our district has committed additional resources to ensure that students have the digital tools needed in our fast-paced world of learning.
“Our job as teachers and parents is not to prepare students for something; our job is to help students prepare themselves for anything.” AJ Julianai
EXTRA CURRICULAR: We know that students who participate in co-curricular activities feel a stronger connection to their school community, and benefit from adults as coaches and mentors. Please visit our website frequently to learn about athletic and club opportunities for your child.
COMMUNICATION: At open house, we helped many families set up ParentVue accounts. This is one important avenue for keeping you and your child informed about grades and assignments. We strongly urge you to check ParentVue regularly. If you need assistance setting up your ParentVue account, please contact our team, we are glad to help.
VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES: If you are interested in joining the EGMS community as a volunteer, please stop by the front office and we can explain the process and opportunities.
Every adult at EGMS is dedicated to making this year a positive, memorable one for your child. We value and thank you, for your partnership.
